Deep Japan from KYOTO

THE HAORI 01

A traditional Japanese silhouette, reimagined for modern life.

Crafted with Nishijin-ori textile from Kyoto, THE HAORI brings the depth and refinement of Japanese craftsmanship into a contemporary wardrobe.

Its generous proportions and distinctive sleeveless silhouette draw inspiration from traditional Japanese garments, while the styling has been refined for modern life.

Wear it simply over a T-shirt, shirt, or knit. The textile does the rest.

Tradition, Made to Be Worn.

The jinbaori was historically worn by samurai commanders over their armor — a garment created not only for function, but also as an expression of identity and presence.

THE HAORI does not attempt to reproduce historical clothing.

Instead, Deep Japan from KYOTO takes the distinctive proportions and spirit of traditional Japanese dress and reinterprets them as a contemporary fashion piece.

Something rooted in Japan's past, designed to live in the present.

This is not a costume.
It is Japanese craftsmanship, made to be worn.

Nishijin-ori from Kyoto

Nishijin-ori is a textile tradition developed in Kyoto and renowned for its intricate woven patterns, dimensional texture, and remarkable use of color and light.

Unlike a surface print, the design is created through the weave itself.

Look at the fabric from one angle and it appears composed and understated.

Move into the light, and new details emerge.

The depth of the pattern, the subtle luster of the threads, and the changing expression of the textile give each movement a different character.

It is a fabric that reveals more the longer you look.

Designed for Modern Styling

THE HAORI is intentionally designed around a generous, kimono-inspired silhouette rather than the close fit of conventional Western tailoring.

The extended shoulder line creates a relaxed structure, while the long body gives the piece presence without requiring elaborate styling.

Pair it with a simple wardrobe:

  • A plain T-shirt

  • A minimal shirt

  • A fine-gauge knit

  • Black trousers

  • Wide-leg trousers

  • Denim

The styling can remain understated.

THE HAORI is designed to become the focal point.

About the Fit

THE HAORI is intentionally cut differently from a conventional Western jacket.

The shoulder measurement is wide by design. Rather than sitting precisely at the natural shoulder, the fabric extends outward and falls from the body in a way inspired by traditional Japanese clothing.

The long body and relaxed width are also intentional, creating a straight, architectural silhouette that can be layered comfortably over everyday clothing.

For this reason, we recommend evaluating the garment by its overall silhouette rather than comparing the shoulder measurement directly with a tailored jacket or blazer.

For the best indication of fit, compare the measurements above with a relaxed outer layer you already own.

Care

Nishijin-ori is a delicate woven textile. Proper care will help preserve its texture, color, and subtle luster for years to come.

After Wearing

Gently remove surface dust by lightly brushing the garment with a soft clothing brush or carefully brushing it away by hand.

Avoid vigorous brushing or rubbing, particularly over decorative woven threads.

If the garment has absorbed perspiration or moisture, allow it to air naturally in a cool, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight before storing.

Cleaning

Do not machine wash or hand wash at home.

If the garment becomes stained or requires cleaning, we recommend consulting a professional cleaner experienced with delicate woven textiles, kimono, or traditional Japanese garments.

Because Nishijin-ori can incorporate complex weaving structures and delicate decorative threads, inappropriate washing or stain treatment may damage the textile.

Do not:

  • Machine wash

  • Hand wash

  • Tumble dry

  • Bleach

  • Scrub or strongly rub the fabric

  • Attempt aggressive stain removal at home

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and humidity.

Avoid prolonged compression or placing heavy objects on top of the garment, as this may affect the texture of the woven surface.

When storing for extended periods, periodically remove the garment and allow it to air in a shaded, well-ventilated space.

With thoughtful care, the character and beauty of the textile can be enjoyed for many years.
